Bruce Scott

President

Bruce represents the second generation of his family to run Scott Laboratories Inc. Bruce graduated from University of California at Berkeley in 1972 where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1974 he received his Masters from UCLA. In 1975 he joined Scott and in 1986 he became its president. Two of his proudest moments over the last 35 years have been the endowment of the Stephen Scott chair in enology at UC Davis and the Robert Scott Scholarship endowment for enology students at Cal State Fresno.


Robert "Alex" Scott

Assistant to the President

Alex is part of the third generation of his family involved with Scott Laboratories and has a specialized emphasis in Cork and Packaging. Alex gained firsthand knowledge of the cork market from his time with Corval Ltd. in Portugal and is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese. He graduated from Tulane University in 2002 with degrees in both Latin American Studies and Spanish. Alex then went on to receive his Master of Business Administration at Loyola University New Orleans in International Business in 2004, where he was a Dean's Honor Award winner. He has also spent time abroad at Universidad de Buenos Aires and Universidad de la Habana. Prior to joining Scott Labs in 2005, Alex worked at the Departamento Comercial of the Embassy of Uruguay in Washington DC and with the Office of Economic Development at the City of New Orleans. Alex is certified as an ISO 9001:2008 Internal Auditor for Scott Labs.


Zachary Scott

Assistant to the President

Zack joins Alex as the third generation of the Scott family. He graduated from University of California at Los Angeles Magna Cum Laude in International Economics with a Minor in Latin American Studies in 2003. At UCLA, he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Zack is fluent in Italian and can converse in Spanish. Prior to joining Scott Laboratories in 2003, Zack built his experience in the wine industry at Gloria Ferrer Winery and ICAS, SpA, the global leader in wirehood (muselet) production. He has firsthand experience with crush equipment, filtration, sanitation and other cellar operations, as well as production and quality control of wirehoods.


Bruce Edwards

Vice President, Operations

Bruce began his second career at Scott Laboratories after 17 years of practical experience in all phases of wine production. Leaving Rutherford Hill Winery as Plant Manager in 1987 he came to Scott as Sales Coordinator, transitioned to Operations Manager, and is also proud to oversee the Parts & Service Departments. Much of his time is spent helping customers select bottling and processing equipment which is truly appropriate. He's happy to talk presses, reception equipment, filtration, pumps and other tools a winery can acquire that can make better wine. No sales tactics. Just a sincere desire to be helpful.


Margaret Karrer

Inside Technical Sales Manager

Margaret is approaching her 30th anniversary with Scott Laboratories. Prior to joining Scott Labs in 1981, she earned a BS degree in Biology from UC Davis. Margaret manages the fermentation, cellar and filtration sectors for Scott. She works closely with suppliers gaining extensive knowledge of the products, handling them from purchasing and importing all the way to providing technical support to winemakers.


Maggie McBride

Laboratory Manager

Maggie joined Scott Laboratories in 2006 as the Laboratory Manager. Maggie came from the Lambert Bridge lab and has had rigorous lab experience at both Beringer and the Sonoma Wine Company. Her broad knowledge of wine chemistry as well as her experience with a diverse set of winemaking techniques create a perfect fit for the Scott wine lab. While continuing to service the industry with traditional offerings, Maggie and the laboratory will work to deliver more analysis for specific winemaking scenarios such as stuck fermentations, nightmare filtrations and specialized fining needs.


Phil Penna

Cork Operations Manager

A Bay Area native, Phil has been a part of the Scott team since 1987. He manages the cork operations for Scott Laboratories and oversees the entire process from start to finish. Phil also serves as an ISO Management Representative and ISO Auditor for Scott Labs. When not in the cork plant, Phil can most likely be found running, biking, fast-packing or enjoying his garden.

 


Richard Weishaar

Chief Financial Officer

Rich serves as the CFO for Scott Laboratories, Inc. He holds a BS degree in Finance from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana, and an MBA degree in Finance from De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois. Rich gained his experience with the Federal National Mortgage Association, Continental Illinois Bank, Homewood Beverage and a small CPA firm, as well as a stint with the US Army. He and his family moved to California in 1978 and joined Scott Laboratories later that fall. Rich is proud to have worked with three generations of the Scott family.
